Site
The location approved for NRF is in the heart of the UF campus just off Center Drive. This site was found to have low intrinsic vibration properties and a location far from any detrimental sources of electromagnetic interference (EMI) – both essential requirements for any nanoscale research facility.
This location was also attractive because of its accessibility. Immediately to the west of the site are the New Engineering Building; the Electrical Engineering and Computer departments in Larsen and Benton halls; Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering; Chemical Engineering; the Particle Science Research Center.
Within five minutes to the northwest is Physics and Materials Science and Engineering; and five minutes to the southwest are the Emerging Pathogens Institue, the Biomedical Building, the Health Professional and Pharmacy Complex, Shands Hospital, and the Davis Medical Center.
Slightly farther to the north, northwest, and northeast are Chemistry and Chemical Biology; the remainder of the engineering campus; IFAS; and the new Cancer Genomics Biotech facility. This is an ideal location for a multidisciplinary research NRF.
